The Temple of Heroes   The dawn of October 7, 2023 woke us up, but on the Lebanese border, battles erupted, each moment different, with explosions, injuries, deaths. Cut off from our phones for weeks, when we got them back, I saw about thirty injured friends, around ten dead, fellow soldiers, loved ones, lives intertwined. We were a team of twenty, all having lost loved ones, each carrying our burden differently, words becoming unnecessary. The second Hanukkah candle, on a Friday, marked by more fighting, bombings, from morning till night. Unable to light the candle, frustration and anger brewed, as we left the base alive, knowing others didn’t survive. Back home, before returning to the front, I spent that time creating a room where emotions intertwine. Love, longing, desire, anger, sadness, fear, all mixed up, in a battle against a suffocating reality, preventing us from escaping. But there are also dreams, starry skies, laughter in the night, impossible or unexpected journeys, chills down the spine, the smell of gunpowder, sun on the neck, dirty teeth, growing nails, disagreements’ screams, prayers of those fearing departure. The seconds before death seem to stretch into days, into nights. Whether it comes, or goes forever, nobody wants to think about it, yet it's there, imminent. Fragments of film intertwine, three years of memories captured in photos: a missing uniform,, Hanukkah candles, pages from my father's Jules Verne book. Each canvas becomes a waking dream, where doors open, where chronology fades, where the end gets lost. Here, we let ourselves drift, amidst ideas, hoping to find some peace.
